In 1982, Tony and Herta Peju unearthed a jewel in the heart of Napa Valley’s renowned Rutherford
Appellation. Tony immediately named the extraordinary 30-acre Estate vineyard after his wife’s maiden initials - Herta Behensky.
Since, the H.B. Vineyard has been producing Peju’s finest fruit and its flagship wine, the H.B. Cabernet Sauvignon.
The perfect mix of the H.B. Vineyard’s deep, gravelly soil, early morning fog and lengthy days of sunshine
showcase what Rutherford wines can offer: pure fruit expression with concentrated, complex and enduring character and richness.
The base of the H.B. is Cabernet Sauvignon, hand-picked from an extraordinary 5.5-acre block at the front of the H.B. Vineyard, where the rootstock has been grafted from original vines that were planted in the vineyard when Tony and Herta purchased the land nearly three decades ago.
Under a watchful eye, Peju’s winemaker Sara Fowler pampers the fruit as it evolves on the vine, arrives to the crush pad, ages in the finest French Oak barrels and matures
elegantly in the bottle.
Every bottle of the H.B. Cabernet Sauvignon is then adorned with an illustration of the Harvest Dance sculpture that
resides in the Peju gardens. It gracefully depicts a man and woman celebrating the joys of the harvest season. Its style and sophistication personify the essence of the H.B. Cabernet Sauvignon.
